Scriptures to Pray with this Week

Increase your personal prayer time by 30 minutes each day.  Spend extra time thanking Jesus and meditating on Jesus' last days, the Last Supper, Jesus Passion and Death.  Read the scriptures on these topics and place yourself in the scene:

Matthew 26-27
Mark 14-15
Luke 22-23
John 12-19

Those are all the chapters that have relevant information to the Triduum (minus Easter).  Read more than you normally would.  Talk with God about it.  Practice Lectio Divina like we did in class and write down your insights. May Jesus give you something big, new and special as  you read His word!

*Some of these are very long -- it's recommended that you take it slow, picture yourself in the scene, talk to the Holy Spirit about it and write what you hear Him say.  Don't feel like you need to do the full reading in a day.  On the other hand, there can also be benefit to reading all of the above readings back to back in one sitting to kind of getting the full picture of the story as it is in chronological order from the two sources we have--Matthew and Luke.

If you don't already have one, please get yourself a nice Catholic Bible of your choice by our next meeting (and bring to all of our upcoming Tuesday gatherings).  There is a difference in the Old Testament books between Catholic and Protestant Bibles, so it is important to specifically search for a Catholic one.  Our Lady of the Rosary in Little Italy has a Catholic Book store where you can check out a variety of Catholic Bibles.  You can also go to any bookstore or order online.

Suggested Discipleship Work For the Week

Try reading or listening to John 14-17 (all four chapters) in the Bible.  This is mainly Jesus speaking the entire time. It's his Last Supper Discourse....so essentially some of the last things He ever said, His parting words.  
  • As you read look for the different dimensions of the great news of the Gospel and circle or write them down:
    • God loves us and wants a relationship with us
    • Jesus is going to die for us in order that we might be forgiven of sins and go to heaven
    • Jesus came to give us the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and do the supernatural works that He did
  • Bonus: See if you can find some Biblical evidence for the Trinitarian God we believe in (hint: this section of scripture/Jesus speaking has a ton about it, if not the most!)
