November Family Faith Formation @ Home Plan
November 2024 @ Home Resources
Bible Verse for Memorization
Practice daily the Bible verse as a family --perhaps read it before dinner with your dinner prayer. Slowly try to memorize it and make it a fun game.
"Pray without ceasing." 1 Thessalonians 5: 17
What does it mean: Don't stop praying. Pray all the time.
Hand motions 1) Prayer Hands. 2) Phone to ear motion with hand (to show that praying is talking & listening to God). 3) running man with your fingers (to show we never stop praying)
Where does it Come From: 1 Thessalonians is a book in the Bible. Specifically, it is in the New Testament and is called an "epistle" or a "letter," It is a letter written by St. Paul to the people who lived in Thessalonica right after Jesus lived, died, rose and ascended into Heaven. Paul and the other apostles went around the world proclaiming the good news or "Gospel" of Jesus Christ. At first Paul persecuted the Church, thinking they were wrong about Jesus being God, but then he met Jesus (read his story in the book of Acts, chapter 9) and his life was changed and he became one of the greatest followers of Jesus....then he wrote half of the new testament!

Check out these two ~20 minute videos from ALPHA. Alpha is a wonderful adult faith formation program that starts from the ground-up in helping adults grow in relationship with God. The top one is on Prayer. The bottom one is on the Bible.
Whole Family Activities
Pray the "Our Father" together every night. After each line, you can ask "Jesus, what does this mean, tell me more about it?" Take a minute to listen (trusting that God wants to speak to us, and it will often come in what feels like a thought)...ask the kids especially the answers they heard to the questions. For those who don't yet have it memorized, help them memorize it little by little and perhaps give a special prize for when they accomplish having the prayer memorized.
Incorporate a time to pray together as a family each night:
1) Start with the sign of the cross
2) Read the Bible verse for memorization a few times
3) Discuss the Bible verse-- what does it mean that God loves us? How do you know God loves you? Who is God the Father's Only Begotten Son? (Jesus)
4) Go around in a circle and thank God for 3 things each. Go back around and say sorry for one thing each. One more time to ask Him for your needs.
5) Close with a hail Mary, inviting Mary to pray with you for these things.
6) End with the Sign of the Cross.
