Confirmation Program
The high school Confirmation Program at St. Vincent’s is designed to be an experience that will help each participant not only prepare to receive the sacrament of Confirmation, but also to develop and deepen his or her relationship with the living God, and live-out life-long discipleship of Jesus Christ, as an active member of His Body, the Catholic Church. Join other high-schoolers for fun, fellowship, and encounters with the Lord!
Confirmation prep is a 2 year minimum process. The student serves at Family Faith Formation, attends bi-weekly Confirmation Classes, participates in parish/family activities, completes a minimum of 2 service opportunities a year, and attends a minimum of one retreat and one San Diego Youth Day. THe basics
Program Length
Our program takes a minimum of 2 years. This timeframe applies to both Catholic and public school students. It is in accordance with a new diocesan stipulation for all parish sacramental prep programs to be at least two years.
Program Design
Each year consists of weekly class, active involvement in the youth group and parish community, service projects, participation in retreats, and a desire to grow in the understanding of one’s own faith. Especially weekly participation at Sunday Mass, preferably the 10:30am Mass.
The Passport
- Students will keep record of Mass attendance, and all other events in their “Confirmation Passport.”
- A volunteer leader of an event or greeter at Mass MUST sign off at the event to verify a student’s participation.
- Each Passport has as space for the student to write one thing they felt the Lord showed them during the Mass and/or event.
- It is recommended that, as you record Mass and events in your Confirmation Passport, you periodically take pictures of the progress, in case your Passport is lost.
- Students can obtain a Confirmation Passport by contacting rafael@vincentcatholic.org and arranging a time to pick it up after Mass or at their first event.
Age
The Diocese of San Diego requires that candidates be at least 15 years of age when the sacrament of Confirmation is conferred. Candidates typically begin in the 9th grade year of high school, but they can begin their 10th or 11th grade year as well. First time 12th grade students or students with special needs may be accepted upon development of a special learning plan that may include participation in the general program, plus additional classes and/or activities.

Families must be registered parishioners at St. Vincent’s for high school student to be eligible to register for the confirmation program.
